Jo Nesbo and Knopf to Release New Harry Hole Novel, THE THIRST

September 19, 2016

This is not a drill. I repeat, this is not a drill.

There will be a NEW installment in Nesbø's Harry Hole series coming from Knopf in May, 2017!

The new Harry Hole book will be titled THE THIRST, and will find Harry hunting down a serial killer who is using Tinder to lure women to him. (Creepy, right?!) Bonus for fans of the series: this book's plot promises that Harry will have to hunt down "a nemesis from his past," which has already got me thinking a series re-read is in order!

Nesbø will be touring in the US to promote the book in Spring 2017. (This will be his first US tour in a number of years, so expect this to be a BIG deal.) The last time readers encountered Harry Hole was in Nesbø's 2013 book POLICE, an exceptional crime book that finds Harry working against a serial killer targeting Oslo's police force. (The ending to POLICE was so good, I actually sobbed on an airplane... but that's a story for a different day.)

I can't even pretend to be professional about this right now - my heart basically just exploded with joy. Nesbø is my most favorite writer, and his Harry Hole books are responsible for sparking my love of Scandinavian crime fiction. If you've never read a Harry Hole book, now is the perfect time to start - not only will THE THIRST be released in May, but 2017 will also mark the release of a movie adaptation of THE SNOWMAN, my personal favorite book in the Harry Hole series. Last but not least, 2017 also marks the 20-year anniversary of the Scandinavian publication of the first Harry Hole novel, which we know as THE BAT in the U.S.

Basically, prepare yourselves: 2017 will be the year of Jo Nesbø, and this crime reader couldn't be more thrilled.

If you have any questions about Nesbø's books or would like more details on where to start with the Harry Hole series, please feel free to email me at crimebythebook@gmail.com - I would love to help you get into this series!

“NEW NOVEL BY INTERNATIONALLY BEST-SELLING SCANDINAVIAN
WRITER JO NESBO TO BE PUBLISHED BY KNOPF IN MAY

THE THIRST Features Return of Detective Harry Hole

NEW YORK, September 19, 2016 – A new novel by the internationally best-selling Scandinavian writer Jo Nesbo will be published next May. It will be published by Knopf in hardcover and as an ebook and audiobook in the US and Canada, and it will be published simultaneously by Harvill Secker in the UK. Nesbo will tour the US at the time of publication – his first stateside visit in several years.

THE THIRST features the return of the author’s popular detective, Harry Hole, who last appeared in THE POLICE in 2013. In this new novel, a serial killer begins targeting users of the online dating site Tinder, which leads Harry on the hunt for a nemesis from his past. It is the eleventh installment in Nesbo’s best-selling crime fiction series.

“I was always coming back to Harry, he is my soul mate. But it is a dark soul, so it is - as always - both a thrill and a chilling, emotionally exhausting experience. But Harry and the story make it worth the sleepless nights,” said Nesbo.

“Hole has become one of the most iconic protagonists in crime fiction,” said Sonny Mehta, Chairman and Editor-in-Chief of Alfred A. Knopf and Nesbo’s American editor, “And Nesbo one of the most accomplished practitioners of the crime novel. His work is authentic, chilling, and of the moment, never more so than with THE THIRST.”

2017 also marks a significant anniversary for Harry Hole: Flaggermusmannen, the novel where Harry Hole made his debut, was published in Scandinavia in 1997 (the first English translation of said novel, The Bat, was published in 2012). Nesbo has also written several stand-alone thrillers since the publication of the last Harry Hole novel, all bestsellers, including 2014’s The Son, 2015’s Blood on Snow, and 2016’s Midnight Sun.

In addition, 2017 will see the release of the film version of Nesbo’s best-selling 2011 novel, THE SNOWMAN. It is the first major theatrical release featuring protagonist Harry Hole. Directed by Tomas Alfredson, who also directed Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, it will star Michael Fassbender as Harry Hole. It will appear in theaters in October 2017.

Nesbo’s novels have sold over 30 million copies worldwide and have been published in 48 languages. He is also a musician and songwriter; he lives in Oslo.
