Crime Festival Preview: Bouchercon 2018

September 4, 2018

‘Tis the season… for Bouchercon! Every fall, crime writers and readers gather for Bouchercon, the World Mystery Convention. Last year’s Bouchercon took place in Toronto, and this year it will be held in sunny St. Petersburg, Florida. 2017 was my first time attending Bouchercon, and, if it’s possible, I’m even more excited for my second Bouchercon than I was for my first! Read on for an overview of Bouchercon 2018, including a list of my most-anticipated panels and author appearances, and the conference “extras” I can’t wait to attend!

Book Event Recap: Karin Slaughter at the Strand for PIECES OF HER

August 23, 2018

Crime writing powerhouse Karin Slaughter has a brand-new book out this week: PIECES OF HER, a gripping story of a young woman who discovers that the person she thought she knew best in the world - her mom - isn’t at all who she believed her to be. On Monday, I had the incredible opportunity to join Karin in conversation at New York’s legendary Strand Bookstore to discuss PIECES OF HER! Interviewing Karin at the Strand was an absolute highlight of my Crime by the Book years thus far, and I’m so excited to share a recap of the event with you today. In this post, you’ll find a recap of the event, including a video of it (courtesy of the Strand’s YouTube!), a rundown of where you can catch Karin on tour for her newest book, and more information on PIECES OF HER!

June Wrap Up 2018.jpg

June 2018 Wrap-Up

July 4, 2018

June was arguably my personal favorite month in reading so far this year—I read a number of highly-anticipated summer releases and also made time for an older novel I’ve been hoping to read for quite a while now! Not only did I find myself reading at a good pace this month, but (even more importantly) I loved the majority of the books I read. To me, that really is the best mark of a great reading month: not how many books you read, but how much you enjoyed the books you did read. All in all, June was a distinct success—and I’m looking forward to seeing what July has in store for me next. But first, a wrap-up of my June reads!

CBTB's Top 5 "New to Me" Authors From 2017

December 28, 2017

There’s nothing like that feeling of finding a new-to-you author whose books you love. In this blog post, I’m thrilled to share with you the top five “new to me” authors whose work made a lasting impression on me this year! This list is a blend of debut authors and established writers -- what they all have in common is simple: 2017 marked the first time I explored their work, but it won’t be the last time I dig into their books. If you haven’t read these authors yet, let this be your inspiration to check them out - they’re fantastic.
