CBTB's Most-Anticipated Spring & Summer 2021 Crime Books

April 11, 2021

Is it a little bit early to be talking about summer crime fiction releases? Maybe… though I don’t know about you, but I for one am already eagerly anticipating summer and all that it will bring with it! It’s been a long year since the pandemic began, and I will take any and every excuse to look forward to the future - including looking forward to future crime fiction releases. In that spirit, rather than doing separate Spring 2021 and Summer 2021 Most-Anticipated lists, I decided to combine them both into one massive rundown of the upcoming crime fiction releases that I’m most looking forward to in the coming months! Some of these books I have been fortunate enough to read already, others are waiting for me on my TBR pile, and others I’ve got on pre-order - but all of these books are on my wishlist as we look towards the months ahead. Whether you’re in the mood for light psychological suspense, gritty noir, creepy thrills, or anything in between, there’s a little something on this list for everyone! Grab a cup of coffee and dig into my picks for Most-Anticipated Spring & Summer 2021 Crime Books. For ease of reference, and to help you plan your own summer TBR list, this list is organized by publication month and date.

Author Q&A: Liz Nugent, LYING IN WAIT

June 10, 2018

The wait is almost over! Liz Nugent’s sophomore novel LYING IN WAIT releases tomorrow (6/12/18)—I absolutely loved this astute, psychologically complex crime novel, and highly recommend it for your summer reading list! Readers looking for a crime novel with rich character development and a fresh take on psychological suspense will love Nugent’s newest offering. I had the chance to ask a few questions of Liz, and I’m thrilled to share our Q&A with CBTB readers today! In this conversation, Liz and I discuss everything from her affinity for writing complex characters to her advice for aspiring writers and much more.

6 Reasons to Read Scandinavian Crime Fiction This Summer

June 6, 2018

When you think “summer reading,” what kinds of books pop into your head? Something light and feel-good, maybe an inspiring memoir, or, if you want to venture into crime, a twisty domestic suspense novel... now, I love a good “beach read” as much as the next person, but today I want to make the case for why your summer reading list needs - or, dare I say, why it deserves - a dark and gritty Scandinavian crime novel, too. With each of the six reasons listed below, I’ll also provide an accompanying book recommendation that exemplifies that particular quality!

Author Q&A: Ruth Ware, THE DEATH OF MRS. WESTAWAY

May 28, 2018

If I had to make a shortlist of authors I would love to interview about their work, Ruth Ware is easily in my top five - if not higher! I’m beyond thrilled, then, to be able to welcome Ruth to CBTB today to chat about her newest novel: THE DEATH OF MRS. WESTAWAY. On sale in the US today (5/29), THE DEATH OF MRS. WESTAWAY is Ruth Ware at her very finest. In this atmospheric and quasi-gothic story of long-kept family secrets, a case of mixed identities sets a young woman (Hal) on the path to claim a massive fortune… so long as she can successfully con her way into a wealthy - and very eccentric - family. I’m so excited to share this Q&A with Ruth Ware - I hope you’ll enjoy reading it as much as I’ve enjoyed putting it together!
